How is the programme taught?

Cambridge Primary Art & Design is taught through a broad range of investigative, artmaking and reflective activities. These include a number of study areas, for example painting, print making, model making or digital art. This course supports progression to Cambridge Lower Secondary Art & Design.

Assessment

There are no Cambridge Primary End of Year Assessments in this subject. The emphasis of Cambridge Primary Art & Design is for teachers to focus on formative feedback on the understanding and skills they want students to develop. This subject is assessed in the online classroom through discussion, observation and lesson outputs where teachers discuss with students ‘what went well’ and how they can improve further, so they can reflect on and improve their performance.

Why Study Cambridge International AS & A Level Art and Design?

The Cambridge International AS & A Level Art and Design course considers expression and communication. You will gain an understanding of visual perception and aesthetic experience, and the ways in which art and design creates a language of its own.

Most of the work for this course is practical, so that you can develop your abilities of observation and analysis of the visual world, sensitivity, skill, personal expression and imagination. You will also learn how to relate your skills to an enhanced knowledge of your own cultures, past and present, as well as an appreciation of practical design problems. Prior requirements and hours of study

Cambridge International AS Level Art and Design requires about 180 hours of study, and Cambridge International A Level Art and Design requires about 360 hours of study.

These figures are for guidance only. The number of hours needed may vary depending on your previous experience of the subject.

We recommend that students who are beginning this course should have previously completed a Cambridge International GCSE course, or the equivalent, in Art and Design.

Grade B/6 or above in Art and Design at IGCSE or the equivalent is required before starting Cambridge International AS & A Level Art and Design. It is also necessary that all A-Level students have IGCSE English Language, or the equivalent, at Grade C/4 or above.
